Apply for a new vehicle licence

Apply online to license a hackney carriage or private hire vehicle.

A compliance test is required for all vehicles that join the Calderdale fleet. This is applies to both new applications or transfers from one vehicle to another.

You must apply online.

Before you apply, please read these documents: Taxis and Private Hire Policy.

Required

  • All documents must be uploaded as part of the online application. Failure to do this will delay your application.
  • You must:
    • Provide V5 (logbook).

A scan/photo of this must be submitted before being sent to the DVLA. Otherwise, you will need a letter headed bill of sale from the authorised dealer. Then email the new V5 to: licensing@calderdale.gov.uk within six weeks. If you do not do this, your vehicle licence may be suspended.

    • Provide Original certificate of insurance.

A scan/photo of this must be uploaded with your application before a licence can be issued. This must be valid at the point that the licence is issued. (Temporary cover notes may expire before the point of grant therefore please think about this when applying for the insurance.) The insurance certificate produced must show cover for private hire use or hackney carriage. The original or certified copy of the insurance must be kept in the licensed vehicle at all times. It must be available to an authorised officer upon request.

  • The vehicle must have door signs fitted. You will get a letter on production of your licence.
