Gain the basic skills of using a computer with detailed instructions and demonstrations relevant to everyday use.
Skills covered in this course include:
- Use basic mouse functions.
- Use basic keyboard functions.
- Use the Internet safely and securely.
- Use Internet browser functions.
- Use ribbons, icons and menus.
- Have an understanding of basic computer jargon.
- Using Microsoft Word.
- Use a variety of printing and saving options (shortcuts).
Course level
First Step - These courses are for complete beginners. You don't need to have studied the subject before or have any previous knowledge.
Who is this course for?
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who want to begin their IT journey.
No previous experience is required as this course is aimed at learners who are new to computing and wish to learn basic mouse and keyboard skills. These skills will help you to perform basic functions when using a computer and help you begin your digital journey.
What do I need to bring?
- A pen and paper to make notes as required and fill in course paper work.
- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection. You’ll also need to install Google Chrome Browser if you do not have this already – it's free to download and use, please visit: www.google.co.uk/chrome.
