Course description
The aim of this course is to support you to develop the maths skills you need for independence at home, work and in the community. You will take part in a range of fun group and individual activities which will help you to improve your skills in some of the areas below:
- Varied methods for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
- Working with simple fractions.
- Weights and measures, specifically metric units.
- Using time and timetables in 12- and 24-hour formats.
- Days of the week and months of the year.
- Shape recognition, symmetry, and other properties.
- Using, recognising, and calculating with coins and money.
- Organising and displaying data using tally charts and bar graphs.
- Extracting information from lists, graphs, tables, and charts.

Who is this course for?
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who are returning to learning and want to develop confidence and basic maths skills before progressing onto an accredited course. Develop areas of weakness to aid in your development. You must be able to attend a minimum of 18 weeks.
What do I need to bring?
- Please bring a notebook and pens.
- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection.
