Course description
An exciting course taught by an industry professional where you will learn all the tricks of the trade. You will bake and decorate a selection of beautiful cakes and cupcakes picking up expert tips along the way.
You will develop your techniques by making:
- Fairy figurine on a decorated board.
- Farmer figurine on a decorated board.
- Mini Victoria sponges with fresh fruit and handmade blueberry sauce.
- Chocolate cupcakes decorated with an animal theme for a children’s party.
- Earl Grey afternoon tea cupcakes decorated with two-tone piped roses.
- Tequila Sunrise cupcakes (alcohol can be substituted).
- Presentation box of birthday cupcakes.
- Create a selection of flowers using flower paste, Roses, Lily of the Valley, Calla Lily and Carnations.
- Starting buds and petals.
- Wire work.
- Mix and experiment using edible tints.
- Use petal cutters and plunge cutters.
- Steam and set colours.

Next Step - The aim of these courses is to take your learning and confidence to the next stage. You will learn more about applying your skills further and delve deeper into the subject. For learners who have completed the First Step course.
Who is this course for?
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who wish to develop their skills in baking and decorating cakes and cupcakes to a higher standard. Enhance your technical skills of sugar craft, and sculpting techniques to make a range of cupcakes to impress and fun fondant figures to progress into paid employment, self-employment, or volunteering.
What do I need to bring?
- Each week you will need to bring a container to take your work home in. You will also need a small set of sculpting tools but the tutor will talk you through this during the first session, so you know exactly what to get and where to get it from.
- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection. You’ll also need to install Google Chrome Browser if you do not have this already – it's free to download and use, please visit: www.google.co.uk/chrome.
