Course description
This course is designed to provide learners with a flexible route to developing the skills in English, which will enable them to build confidence and provide a foundation for further study towards higher qualification in ESOL, a move towards employment or as a stepping stone to vocational study. Learners will gain skills and confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- This course will guide and teach you how to build on your English conversational skills by working in groups and participating in group discussions.
- You will acquire high level reading and writing skills with a good understanding of producing different types of documents e.g emails and letters.
- You will also learn and understand the importance of pronunciation skills in English.
- Whilst on this course you will be given the opportunity to develop skills you will use in your daily life activities which will help you to feel part of and connect with the wider community.
- You will be able to socialise and work alongside other learners, supporting you to gain independence when accessing different services and benefits.
This course offers three stand alone units (Speaking and Listening / Reading / Writing) as part of a recognised qualification and can be taken as individual units in a roll on and roll off program throughout the year.
At Entry level 2 – you will focus on being able to express yourself (using all four skills) using the grammatical points relating to the present simple, present continuous and past simple tenses.
At Entry level 3 – you will focus on being able to express yourself (using all four skills) including the following grammatical points:- the past simple continuous, present perfect with for and since and zero conditionals as well as those learnt at Entry level 2.
Course level
Entry Level - Qualifications at Entry 1 to Entry 3 recognise basic knowledge and skills used in everyday life or in the workplace, and help to build confidence.
Who is this course for?
Entry level 2 - Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who have previously achieved an Entry level 1 or assessed as working towards Entry 2.
Entry level 3 - Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who has previously achieved an Entry level 2 or assessed as working towards Entry 3.
What do I need to bring?
- You must bring with you a note book, pen and a folder for your work.
- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection.
