Course description
Learn how to progress further in drama and performing arts.
This course will develop drama skills across a range of games and improvisation techniques designed to get the imagination and the body working. This will help learners build confidence, develop social skills, and improve health and wellbeing.
We will further study classic and contemporary theatre, dance techniques, music production, and music composition. Learners will expand on choreography skills, explore physical theatre, and understand the importance of costume, makeup and backstage management techniques. We will finally develop skills in studying and interpreting an established theatrical text and then producing a final performed piece based on this interpretation.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate further understanding of acting techniques and their cultural impact.
- Demonstrate confidence with public speaking, team working and communication skills.
- Show improvement in your breathing, voice, and warm up techniques.
- Explain advanced theatrical terms and stage management set up and know how to undertake key aspects of performance management and production.

Who this course is for
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ with a learning disability who want to improve their confidence and build upon the drama skills gained from the Drama & Movement (First Step) course. You must have the basic communication skills to perform and interact with a group.
What you need to bring
You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection. You will also need to install the free Google Chrome browser, if you do not have it already.
