Course description
Learning tasks are adapted to your way of working and the level you are studying. Tutors are supportive, and our learning environments are welcoming and inclusive.
Topics will reflect your level of learning and the main areas of focus for each level will be:
Entry 1 – Entry 3
- Use whole numbers in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems.
- Recognise notes and coins and use skills to calculate money tasks.
- Read and record time in common date formats and read time displayed on clocks.
- Make comparisons between measures of items including size, length, width, height, weight, and capacity.
- Identify and recognise common 2D and 3D shapes.
- Describe position and direction, including left, right, in front, behind, under and above.
- Read numerical information from lists and sort and classify objects.
- Read and draw simple charts and diagrams.
At Entry Level learners are expected to be able to use the knowledge and skills to recognise a simple problem and obtain a solution. A simple problem is one which requires working through one step or process.
Level 1 and Level 2
- Whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages using the four rules: adding, subtracting, multiplying & dividing.
- Gain a deeper understanding of positive and negative numbers.
- Work with money, time & temperature.
- Calculating area and volume of various 2D and 3D shapes. Using metric measurements in length, weight, and capacity.
- Measuring and using angles for scale and direction.
- Calculate and problem solve using data in tables, diagrams, charts, and graphs.
- Learn about probability and outcomes, as well as working out the mean and range of a data set.
Level 1 and 2 learners will gain confidence in problem solving at a high-level, as well as learning how to apply Maths skills in everyday situations and employment situations.

Who is this course for?
Residents of Calderdale aged 19 who are looking to develop confidence in their mathematical skills and transfer/apply these skills to everyday situations.
What do I need to bring?
- Pen, pencil, ruler, and a geometry set is advised. Non-scientific Calculator recommended.
- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection. You’ll also need to install Google Chrome Browser if you do not have this already – it's free to download and use, please visit: www.google.co.uk/chrome.
