Course description
The course will build upon the work-ready skills you already know to take your tech skills to the next level, including workplace etiquette when using computers.
The skills you will learn include:
Word
- Word processing: Navigate the software package and use various functions - (Layout – Reference – Review – View - Help) tabs.
- Create a Word document using – Insert/Tables function.
- Edit and adapt tables to meet specific criteria.
- Use: Highlight – Cut – Copy – Paste techniques.
- Access and insert: URLS - Hyperlinks.
- Use extended file management techniques (create hierarchies).
Spreadsheets
- Apply basic formulas to solve mathematical problems.
- Insert: Notes and Comments.
- Produce graphs and charts using spreadsheet data.
- Create - access an email account.
- Use a Username and password to access/protect the - email account.
- Create and Address book – Contacts list.
- Use: Cc – Bcc functions when sending, composing email messages.
- File email messages - create specific, named folders.
- Delete - email messages.
- Be aware of email etiquette.
- Close your email account securely.
Internet
- Use Internet browser functions – Cookies, Favorites/Bookmarks.
- Manage browsing history.
Course level
Next Step. The aim of these courses is to take your learning and confidence to the next stage. You will learn more about applying your skills further and delve deeper into the subject. For learners who have completed the First Step course.
Who this course is for
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who wish to explore a variety of IT based programs. You must be confident with word processing, spreadsheet and email basics or have completed the IT – Work Skills (First Step) course. You will build upon your knowledge and use an assortment of functions.
What you need to bring
- Notepad and pen.
- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet and a stable internet connection. You will also need to install the free Google Chrome browser, if you do not have it already.
