Course description
The purpose of this course is to support health and social wellbeing through learning a language.
This course is designed to help develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
You will learn some basic key-phrases and how to formulate questions.
The topics covered in this course are:
- Personal information – talking about yourself and asking about others for information.
- Ordering snacks and drinks in an Italian bar.
- Going to a restaurant and ordering a full meal.
- Talking about likes and dislikes.
- Booking rooms in a hotel – how to enquire about availability, price and other amenities.
- Asking and understanding directions.
- Travelling by bus and train – how to buy tickets, ask for information and to understand timetables.
Course level
First Step - These courses are for complete beginners. You don't need to have studied the subject before or have any previous knowledge.
Who is this course for?
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who have no prior knowledge of Italian, or only know who a few words, who wish to develop their social skills and confidence when interacting with Italian speakers. Learners will keep their minds active, improve their memory, and ability to focus on tasks.
What do I need to bring?
- The textbook, pen and paper. The textbook will be discussed at the first class.
- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection. You’ll also need to install Google Chrome Browser if you do not have this already – it's free to download and use, please visit: www.google.co.uk/chrome.
