Course description
The purpose of this course is to support health and social wellbeing through creative art and crafts.
This course supports learners to develop skills, knowledge, and understanding of arrange of techniques.
Topics and skills covered include:
- Shibori (Japanese style tie dye).
- Eco printing.
- Natural dyeing.
- Wax resists (often called batik).
- Applique.
- Embroidery stitches.
- The use and care of textile equipment.
- Introduction to different types of sewing methods.
- Slow stitch to reduce stress and anxiety.
- Completion of a project using the skills learnt.
Course level
First Step - These courses are for complete beginners. You don't need to have studied the subject before or have any previous knowledge.
Who is this course for?
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who are interested in textile crafts including a range of sewing, dyeing, painting, and mark making techniques.
No previous experience needed in the subject area, but this course will include using needles to create patterns on fabric and textile dyes and hot equipment such as pans, hot plates and hot wax. Please speak to our tutors prior to booking if in any doubt about the suitability of the course.
What do I need to bring?
- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection.
